The Canadian dollar extended its previous session downward trading against most major currencies during New York afternoon deals on Friday. The loonie plunged further and currently trading near a fresh multi-day low of 1.3564 versus the euro, compared to 1.3392 hit late New York Thursday.
After hitting new multi-day highs of 0.9994 against the US dollar and 93.86 versus the Japanese yen by about 6:40 am ET, the loonie traded lower in New York mid-day deals today. At present, the loonie is worth 92.67 against the yen and 1.0064 versus the greenback, compared to yesterday’s closing values of 93.22 and 1.0023, respectively.
The Canadian currency also ticked down against the Australian dollar and currently trading near a multi-week low of 0.9386 from Thursday’s close of 0.9311.
The Statistics Canada released its latest report on Friday morning showed that employment opportunities increased by 17900 in March. The unemployment rate was 8.2 per cent, the same as it was the previous month.
